Fire-Rated Glass & Systems

Manko Window Systems is pleased to offer Vetrotech’s Fire-Rated Glass and Systems

Manko offers Vetrotech’s Keralite® glass products throughout its sales area and is the sales representative for Vetrotech systems in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Wyoming.

Fire Rated Glass — Keralite® Select Filmed & Keralite® Select Laminated

Manko stocks, cuts in-house, and delivers Keralite® Select Filmed and Keralite® Select Laminated glass. Produced by the joint-venture of Corning Inc. and Saint-Gobain, Keralite® Select is a fully code compliant fire protective glass-ceramic able to resist high temperature and thermal shock. Keralite® Select has the same properties as standard Keralite® but has been polished to provide the lowest haze and the sharpest view in the industry. With Keralite® Select we offer you superior clarity with exceptional color rendering and the most float-like aesthetics ever achieved in the range of fire-rated glass ceramics. Keralite® Select (premium polished grade) fire-rated glass ceramic products are available with film or laminate for accidental human impact safety protection. Safety film applied to the surface provides a cost effective and light-weight fire-protective glazing solution. Laminating Keralite® Select adds durability and sound reduction and is an ideal solution for high traffic areas. Keralite® Select, either in filmed or laminated safety glazing variants, can be a solution for fire doors, transoms and sidelights.

Fire Rated Glass — Contraflam®

Fire-resistive glazing provides a similar protection to fire-protective glass but also limits the transmission of heat to a harmless minimum. This serves to compartmentalize fire and protect critical fire separation areas, such as escape atria, routes, stairwells, or elevator lobbies. This special fire-rated glass operates as a barrier to heat transmission and limits the average temperature increase to 250°F (140°C) above the initial temperature. It thereby prevents fire from spreading to combustible materials on the safe side by heat conduction or convection.

Manko provides Vetrotech’s Contraflam®, Contraflam® Laminated, and Contraflam® IGU (insulated glass unit) glazing products. Contraflam®, first introduced in North-America 1984, is a single or multi-chamber fire-resistive glazing made of tempered safety glass and sealed to be completely moisture-resistant. The chambers are filled with an environmentally friendly and transparent chemical mixture based on UV-stable alkaline silicate, which reacts in the event of fire. This intumescent interlayer expands as an opaque foam, limiting heat transmission and thereby reducing panic by blocking the view to affected areas. Contraflam® Laminated has the same characteristics as Contraflam® with the addition of a laminated safety glass layer on at least one side. This configuration provides the highest impact safety for increased impact-safety and fall-protection. The lamination also makes many multifunctional features, such as acoustic insulation, possible and opens up an extensive range of design options. Contraflam® can also be fabricated into an IGU.

  • UL-listed range for up to 120 minutes
  • Impact safety rating (CPSC 16CFR 1201 Cat. II; EN 12600) – contact Manko regarding IGU impact safety rating
  • Easy, secure handling and installation
  • Excellent acoustic insulation properties
  • Many design and comfort options
  • Full fall-protection for horizontal applications (Laminated)
  • Ideal for fire resistance in overhead, partition and floor applications (Laminated)
  • Available as double glazing for exterior applications
  • Clear, colored, translucent and printed designs available (Laminated)

Fire Rated Systems — VDS® Framing Systems & Contraflam® Structure

Special glazing and door solutions with fire-resistant characteristics are not only made of fire-resistant glass, but are part of holistic, tried and tested life-safety systems. We offer a special range of these fire system solutions to provide protection in escape routes and compartmentalize fire to limit the harmful effects of fire and smoke to building occupants.

VDS® System & VDS® Lite

The VDS® framing systems by Forster are engineered steel curtain walls, doors, partitions, and window frames that work with fire-rated glazing products to provide a fire-resistive or fire-protective framing solutions with complete design flexibility. Structurally robust with the streamlined look, clean lines and tight tolerances normally associated with extruded aluminum enable longer and higher spans. For one-hour and above requirements, the VDS® System includes fire-resistive properties to provide a barrier to heat with our Contraflam® range. VDS® Lite offers fire-protective properties in conjunction with our Keralite® range. VDS® System Doors and VDS® Lite Doors are also available.

  • Symmetrical fire protection
  • For interior and exterior applications
  • UL-listed for USA and Canada
  • Blast-resistant solutions available
  • Easy assembly and installation
  • Minimum profiles with sharp corners and clean lines
  • Increased free area for better view and higher light transmission
  • All color options with durable powder coatings
  • Many design and comfort options

Maximum sizes depend on glazing being used and specific application.
Refer to Contraflam® and Keralite® charts for sizing information.

Contraflam® Structure

Contraflam® Structure sets new standards in the design of transparent fire protection. It is a patented flush butt-joint glass solution without vertical frame profiles that ensures fire-resistive properties for up to 120 minutes. The floor-to-ceiling glazing resembles a continuous, uninterrupted glass wall only jointed with silicone – almost like one large piece of glass. This allows the building to be flooded with natural daylight without compromising on safety. It is adapted to the static requirements for partitions and walls, and tested to reach high impact resistance and line loads.

  • Symmetrical butt-joint fire protection
  • Impact safety resistance (CPSC 16CFR 1201 Cat. II)
  • UL-listed up to 138-1/2” height (exposed area)
  • Benefit of maximum of light with less framing
  • Corners without frame profiles (90°–180°)
  • For interior and exterior applications
  • Excellent acoustic insulation properties
  • Many design and comfort options
